Welcome to my 4th. Year Final Year Project
The changing face of Limerick City will provide a valuable source of information in an interactive way to the users interested in finding out about the development of Limerick City over the past number of years.
This project really motivates me as it combines my architectural experience and photography passion together to create a web site housing both aspects.
I love to take photographs of buildings and will be able to use some of those images in this project to help show off my native city to its best. I will be able to give an architectural feel to the web site by using an architectural style layout on the web page, which I hope will attract architectural inclined individuals.

Week beginning Monday 5th November
- Still working on home page
- Meeting with PG
Reviewed my progress since previous meeting.
To Do List for project following discussion with PG:Work on home page – not gelling together in Flash area – too much space, look at how the image button to the flash content could be used in a cutout of the architectural transparency - Had progress meeting with Mike OConnell. MOC advised me to keep a diary of every thing I do on the project - the reasons for doing certain things a certain way, and for changes that may occur.
MOC also asked me to write out the headings for my final chapter and PowerPoint presentation.History area with database is still causing me some concern - Called to Healy & Partners to collect information - but the not ready yet. REMINDER – Email / phone Richard Rice on same.
- Phone Murray O’Laoire regarding Hugh Murray’s involvement with the regeneration of St. Mary’s Parish. Spoke to Hugh’s PA – Kate and she is going to see if she can set up an appointment for me in the next couple of weeks. Had emailed the company but got no response hence the phone call.
Week beginning Monday 29th. October

Redesigned my homepage to fit a 17" monitor 1000 x 574 pixels
- Got the images of old Limerick in print and slide
- Met with Pat Dowling in Limerick City Council - kept memo of meeting and he gave me contact names who will provide me with information for the project. Also met Richard Rice of Healy & Partners who is going to give me information on areas being revitalized in Limerick.
- As I was concerned with pixel sizes for the flash file and dreamweaver file to clarify this in my head I created a small piece in flash and also set up the home page in dreamweaver and imported the flash file into dreamweaver – it works a treat – Can now proceed with the correct pixel sizes used.

Week beginning Monday 22nd. October
- Researched on line - what is available about Limerick http://www.limerickcitydb.ie/CDBInfo/Main/Main.aspx
- Progress review meeting with Pat Green & Seamus OCiardaiun and discussed the two alternative below:
- Reason behind color, Architects drawing = blue print = hence liked the idea of blue.
Homepage design size set to 750 x 450 x 72ppi to fit a 15” monitor.
a. Rulers
b. Details
c. Use transparent architectural drawing
Using a,b,c helps to create the architectural style needed for this web site.
Layout 2 – grey
This layout appeals to me also as I created buttons using architectural details and photos of Limerick as buttons with an architectural feel.
Looked at free fonts on web, as I liked the font used on Hut Sachs Studio web site – no luck yet finding a suitable one yet.
http://limerick.ie/OurServices/Housing/HousingPublications/FitzgeraldReport/
http://www.limerickpride.com/
Downloaded the following PDF's from the above sites:
a. The John Fitzgerald Report, which “addresses issues of Social Exclusion in Moyross and other disadvantaged areas of Limerick City.”
b. The Limerick Pride PDF, which “is dedicated to promoting the very many positive aspects of Limerick City and County.”
c. "Limerick, the profile of a changing city"
- Weekly meeting with my supervisor Mike OConnell and discussed my concerns with the technical aspects involved.
Week beginning Monday 15th. October
- Given project approval
- Got article from the Sunday Times Paper on John Fitzgerald who wrote the report on the regeneration of deprived areas in the city.
- Project review meeting with Patricia Green - advice given on storyboards & navigation etc. To Do List for project following discussion with PG:
- Architectural web sites that appeal to me - http://gruzensamton.com and http://hutsachs.com/
1. To give the site an architectural look – “Blue Print”
Find architectural drawings to use as background for web home page
Source architectural details that can be used on these pages as buttons OR Have a little drawing at bottom of page of a building
2. Make the name of the buttons mean what they say they are going to display – use more appropriate names.
3. Home page at present is incorrect – needs more work and buttons to be positioned differently.
4. Don’t need acknowledgement page – This can go in report
5. Look at color and text that appeals to me
6. Buttons:
Instead of presentation – Say Audio & Video
Comments – Have your say
Partners – People making changes happen
Case Studies – New buildings in limerick replacing old!! Possibly
